The memorial service for former Bophuthatswana homeland leader Lucas Mangope will take place at his home village of Motswedi outside Zeerust in the North West.

Ninety-four-year-old Mangope, who was also a Kgosi (traditional leader), died last week at Lehurutshe Hospital near Zeerust.

Among those expected to address the memorial service will be representatives from the North West provincial government, the Legislature and the House of Traditional leaders.

Mangope’s colleagues, who served in his then Bophuthatswana cabinet, will also be present.

Members of the community from across the province are expected to be in attendance.

The memorial service is scheduled to start at around 11:00.
