Melanie Verwoerd on ANC’s 54th National Conference

Reading Time: < 1 minute

In two days the country will hold its breath as the ANC decides, at the 54th National Conference, not only on its next leader, but also the future of our country.

We will finally know which faction is to win the soul of this once majestic liberation movement.

“I am not someone who scares easily. But I am scared. Very scared…”  These are words of our guest political analyst, Melanie Verwoerd.

Born Melanie Fourie, she married Wilhelm Verwoerd, grandson of Dr. Hendrik Verwoerd, architect of apartheid; Melanie joined the ANC at a very young age, became a politician, was SA Ambassador to Ireland and is a former ANC MP.

Melanie shares her concern that the ANC we now know is not the ANC of 1994.

She goes on to emphasize that the leading party has not been delivering in terms of the downgrade of the economy, the increased racial tensions within the country, and not successfully delivering to the poor.

A brief analysis of the current progress of the race between Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and African activist Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is discussed.
