Media, public, family barred from mosque attack court proceedings

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The media, public and family members of the 19 men linked to a mosque attack, and the spate of bomb scares with incendiary devices that were placed at KwaZulu-Natal malls, have been barred from the Verulam Magistrates Court in the north of Durban, for a second day running.

One person died, and two others injured in an attack on a mosque in Ottowa, near Verulam earlier in 2018.

The accused are facing terrorism charges, as well as charges in connection with incendiary devices that were placed at KwaZulu-Natal malls between March and August 2018.

Monday’s delays were caused by interpreters and Tuesday’s delays was with meal requirements as the suspects required Halaal food.

The Hawks are revealing very little at this stage regarding the details of this case as well as court proceedings as they say investigations are at a sensitive stage.

The suspects are believed to be involved with the Verulam mosque attack where one person was killed, as well as the various incendiary devices that were located at Woolworths outlets in malls across KwaZulu-Natal.
