The media fraternity is mourning the passing of Moses Moyo – a well-known journalist and owner of a local newspaper, the Joburg Inner City Gazette.
Moyo passed away following a short illness at his home in Johannesburg late Thursday night.
He is known among Joburgers for his stories about the poor living conditions of the inner city dwellers.
I have just learned, with total disbelief, of the passing of someone I regarded with the highest of respect, Mr Moses Moyo from Inner City Gazette. This is the real loss to our @CityofJoburgZA. My heartfelt condolences to his family & close associates

Chairperson of the South African National Editors Forum (Sanef), Mahlatse Mahlase, says journalism has lost a very committed and hardworking journalist who was fighting for the freedom of community media.
“As SANEF we are deeply saddened by Moses Moyo’s passing. He was a committed member of SANEF. He was elected council member. He was the man who was deeply passionate and committed to strengthen media freedom and of course with his worth of experience he had been part of the decision to create a subcommittee on community media.”
