Operation Fiela aims to arrest illegal immigrants.

Gauteng Community Safety MEC Sizakhele Nkosi-Malobane says her department will intensify its efforts to rid the province of undocumented people through Operation Fiela.

Nkosi-Malobane says she is in talks with other departments to ensure strict control of the country’s ports of entry to avoid an influx of illegal immigrants.

However, she says this is not a target on foreign nationals but rather on those who commit crimes while in the country.

Nkosi-Malobane was speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the provincial law enforcement agencies.

“We have a high number of housebreakings where we will be able to get positive finger prints that are not linked to anybody. In simple terms, it means that people who have committed crimes are people who are not documented in this country. We are going to make sure that we get rid of them in this province; whether arresting and sending them home,” she adds.
