Former crime intelligence boss, Richard Mdluli, will to return to the High Court in Johannesburg on Wednesday. A date for sentencing proceedings is expected to be finalised.

On Tuesday, the court found Mdluli, and his co-accused Mthunziomhle Mthunzi, guilty of intimidation, kidnapping, common assault and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

The case relates to the 1999 killing of Oupa Ramogibe, who allegedly had an affair with Mdluli’s customary wife, Tshidi Buthelezi.

They were both acquitted on the charge of intimidation in relation to Buthelezi’s friend Alice Manana and defeating the ends of justice.

Mdluli has indicated that he intends appealing the judgement.

“The NPA welcomes the conviction of Mr Mthembeni Mthunzi and Mr Richard Mdluli who were convicted by the Johannesburg High Court today (Tuesday). We are of the view that the court did its best in considering and evaluating evidence in its totality and came to a just conclusion,” says NPA spokesperson, Phindi Mjonondwana.
