McIlroy leads by two at DP World tour championship

Former world number one, Rory McIlroy, is the leader after the first round of the DP World Tour Championship at the Jumeirah Golf Estate’s Earth Course in Dubai.

The Northern Irishman was back to his best and made six birdies and an eagle with just one bogey in a round of seven-under-par 65. He has a two-stroke lead over a group of three players.

South Africa’s Christiaan Bezuidenhout is one of those in a tie for second place. He was just as steady in the opening round, making six birdies and just one bogey.

American Collin Morikawa who is top of the Race to Dubai rankings, is one of 10 players a stroke further back.

He had two bogeys in his round of four-under-par 68.
