Minister Tito Mboweni says money allocated to SAA is not a bailout.

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has written to the National Assembly speaker, Thandi Modise asking for the tabling of the Medium Term Budget Policy Statement to be postponed by a week to October 28.

The tabling of the mini budget was scheduled for next Wednesday.

In a statement, Parliament said Mboweni has cited what he calls recent complex decisions taken by cabinet in respect of the 2020/21 adjusted estimates and the 2021 Medium Term Expenditure Framework as well as the implications of the time frames for the finalisation of government’s economic reconstruction and recovery plan on the budget process.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will table the Economic Recovery Plan in parliament on Thursday.

Mboweni’s request will be considered by the National Assembly’s programming committee when it meets on Thursday.
