Mbombo to outline strategy to address surgical backlogs at Western Cape hospitals

Western Cape Health Minister Dr Nomafrench Mbombo is expected to outline the department’s strategy on the handling of surgical backlogs at hospitals in the province on Monday.

Mbombo says the COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on elective surgical services and left a backlog in the system.

The department has had to redeploy a significant amount of their services due to the pandemic.

Mbombo says the plan that will be presented will address backlogs in the orthopaedic, obstetrics and the department’s robotic surgery programme.
