Joburg mayor applauds arrest of JMPD assaulters

Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba thanked the SAPS for their “speedy” arrests of the JMPD assaulters in Hillbrow over the weekend.

Johannesburg mayor, Herman Mashaba has commended the police for their swift arrest of a suspect in connection with the assault of a Metro Police Officer at the weekend.

The officer was attacked and disarmed allegedly by church members while attempting to remove a church-goers illegally parked car from the street.

The officer was rushed to hospital; however he has since been discharged and recovering from home.

Acting Director of Communications at the Office of the Executive Mayor, Luyanda Mfeka says that the suspect was arrested by the SAPS in connection with the assault of the JMPD officer who was attacked on Sunday morning during the execution of his duties.

“The city wishes him a speedy recovery. The suspect remains in custody and expected to appear in court in the next 48 hours,” says Mfeka.
