The top performing National Senior Certificate Examinations Results (NSC) matric students of 2017 are gathered in Johannesburg ahead on the ministerial announcement on Thursday.

The students arrived in Johannesburg on Wednesday from different parts of the country. They will be having breakfast with the Minister of Education Angie Motshekga on Thursday morning.

Though they know that they have passed, they do not know how well.

One of the students, Joshua Chetty, says he received a call from the Department of Education on Wednesday morning inviting him to be a guest of the minister.

“I was so surprised. I had planned to spend my day chilling out. I never expected this. I never expected to have done this well,” says Chetty who attended New Hope School in Pretoria.

Another student, Anza Tshipetane from Mbilwi Secondary School in Thohoyandou says she received a call from the department on Monday.

“I was so happy. I think I am part of the top three for mathematics,” says Tshipetane.

Motshekga will announce the NSC results live on SABC on Thursday. She will also announce the best performing students. Other students will have their results available on Friday.
