Mathebula takes stand before State Capture Inquiry

Acting National Treasury Chief Procurement Officer Ndleleni Mathebula says his office is responsible for regulating procurement and modernising the supply chain systems across all spheres of government.

Mathebula who has taken the stand at the Commission of Inquiry into State Capture in Parktown, Johannesburg, says his office also plays an important in overseeing procurements to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Mathebula says his office was established in 2013 to ensure that there is transparency in the system and to deal with issues related to abuse of public procurement.

Corruption and fraud was part of the mandate.

The mandate of his office is mainly to modernise the supply chain system and make sure that it is effective.

Mathebula is the first witness to take the stand at the inquiry.
