Masina refutes the ‘I won’t serve under Ramaphosa’ statement

Ekurhuleni Mayor Mzwandile Masina says he will work with newly-elected ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa.

This comes after he reportedly said that he would resign should Ramaphosa be elected as the party’s new leader.

Ramaphosa was elected to the most powerful position in the ANC on Monday. The seasoned unionist, politician and businessman has the longest experience in the oldest liberation movement’s National Executive Committee.

Masina says he will not be stepping down as mayor.

“I think that maybe the media must be fair because we expect balanced reporting. The same day that there was an article, I was able to respond with a statement of the misquotation. It is a known fact that I supported (Nkosazana) Dlamini-Zuma as president, but where we are now, we accept the outcome of the Top 6 as announced. Until such time that the ANC asks me to do something else, I will be the mayor. I will fully work with Ramaphosa,” says Masina.
