Gauteng African National Congress chairperson Paul Mashatile has emphasised the importance of electing inclusive leadership that is reflective of all sides.

Mashatile who is in Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s slate has been speaking to the SABC ahead of the start of the party’s National Elective Conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg.

“You know historically in the ANC we have these differences what people called factions and slates. In this conference what we are trying to do is that to have people from different groups because to kill factions is to take from both sides the best of the best that can unify the ANC.”

“So unity is not about one person, it is this collective. It does not mean it always has to be a consensus, it can go through voting in a comradely way and once you do it that way you will achieve unity.”

Meanwhile the ANC national spokesperson Zizi Kodwa has given the assurance that there won’t be any disruptions at the party’s 54th National Elective Conference.

He says the gathering will proceed smoothly. Kodwa says not even gate-crashing will be possible.

“It’s going to be tough for anybody to do that even for one person I must warn any individual who think that his or her presence is to disrupt the meeting of the NAC. WE will take you without touching the ground you will realise that you kissed the meeting.”

“We are ready for that because there are one or two elements that might come here with intentions among others to make sure that the conference is successful. WE are here on behalf of the nation not disrupting a meeting which aims to resolve and inspire and restore confidence of our people.”
