Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Mpumalanga Department of Education has confirmed that the marking of matric scripts for the 2021 academic year has been completed. The department says there were no incidents reported during marking.

It says the process is now in the hands of Umalusi to certify the results.

The department says the results will be announced on the 21st of January at the University of Mpumalanga.

The spokesperson for the department, Jasper Zwane says the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the late release of the results.

“There has not been any incident that we could not manage and from now we are expecting due processes to unfold which includes standardisation of the certification of the results by Umalusi, the MEC for Education will announce the provincial results in detail on the 21st January 2022,” says Zwane.

Meanwhile, the National School Governing Body (NSGB) has welcomed the decision by the Basic Education Department to release the results later next month.

“Fortunately, on the 24th of December, we hand a meeting with the department nationally where they were trying informed us about the processes they have undertaken as the department, during the processes of marking. So I think we agreed on a number of issues. All we are waiting for is to allow Umalusi to do their moderation and other processes that are still being undertaken. That is why it would take a little bit longer for them to release the results because Malusi must first verify them,” says Elphas Maseko, NSGB Chairperson.
