Maritzburg United have escaped the ABSA Premiership relegation by a whisker on Saturday and finished the season 15th on the log.

The Team of Choice drew one-all against Baroka FC at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium and will now play in the promotion-relegation.

Chippa United was not to be outdone; they scored a solitary goal against Kaizer Chiefs in a match played at the Nelson Mandela Bay.

The Chili Boys finished the season 12th on the log.

Black Leopards also did themselves a favour after they beat Cape Town City with a second-half goal in a match played at the Thohoyandou Stadium. They finished the log in 13th place.

Meanwhile, PSL chief operations officer, Prof Ronnie Schloss, says the 2018/19 Absa Premiership campaign will go down in history as one of the best seasons.

It was dramatic from the beginning to the end, with the league championship having been decided during the last round of the fixtures.

There was also a tight contest to escape the dreaded relegation axe.

Schloss says this shows that there are no more pushovers in the Absa Premiership.
