Maritzburg United determined to avoid relegation

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids says the last five games of the season will be critical. United are currently languishing in 16th place in the standings with 24 points after 25 games played so far.

They will host Richards Bay at the Harry Gwala Stadium in a crucial KwaZulu-Natal derby on Friday night.

Davids however says they do not feel any pressure going into their next game.

“We have dealt with the situation the entire season, that’s where the club has been. [It] is nothing new to the players. The only thing that is different, is that there are only five matches remaining. The good is that is in our hands.”

Davids has urged the fans to rally behind the team in their last three home games of the season.

“In the five matches, we have three home matches, we really edge the fans to get behind us. We want to be in the situation to save the club, first and foremost. We want to create a scenario [that it is] the last time Maritzburg is fighting relegation”
