Sandile Mantsoe was also found guilty of assault and defeating the ends of justice for disposing of Mokoena’s body.

Convicted murderer Sandile Mantsoe still maintains he did not take the life of his girlfriend Karabo Mokoena, despite the guilty verdict on Wednesday.

The Johannesburg High court has found Mantsoe guilty of the pre-mediated murder of 22-year-old Mokoena.

He was also found guilty of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and defeating the ends of justice.

Mokoena’s charred remains were found in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg in April last year, a day after she was reported missing.

Sentencing proceedings will begin on Thursday.

He says he is guilty of trying to be a positive influence in Mokoena’s life.

“I didn’t kill her, I tried to bring positive influence in her life but it is unfortunate that I came into her life when things were really bad.”

“So maybe I am guilty of trying to build a person and being the last one there when she collapsed. So the truth of the matter is I tried my best to make the best opportunities for her,” says Mantsoe.
