Mantashe has been accused of trying to protect Eskom's virtual monopoly on power generation.

Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe has been admitted to hospital on Monday.

Mantashe is one of five cabinet ministers who tested positive for the coronavirus last week.

Mantashe and his wife, Nolwandle recently tested positive for COVID-19 and have been self-quarantining at home.

However, a statement issued on Monday by the Presidency says  Mantashe has been hospitalised on the advice of his family doctor for better medical attention and monitoring, whilst his wife will continue to self-quarantine at their home.
