Reading Time: < 1 minute

Residents of  the Mangaung Metro Municipality in Bloemfontein are demanding better service delivery and COVID-19 relief fund from the Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

Mangaung Service Delivery Forum Chairperson, Potso Motoko, says Centlec should address the issue of power cuts and expensive tariffs.

Protestors will also march to Centlec offices, Mangaung Metro Municipality headquarters and to the Department of Economic Development.

Motoko says the engagements they had in the past with all the stakeholders have fallen on deaf ears.

“We are marching from Paradise Hall to the offices of Centlec, where we are having a problem with the electricity tariffs. The prices are not valid for the value of what we getting as residents. And it is not a reliable electricity, it cuts and grabs from time to time. Another problem is Destea, the COVID-19 relief funds were misused and not allocated to the right people who are the small business people. And also Mangaung metro municipality with poor service delivery and corruption allegations.”
