Former Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Mduduzi Manana has paid a R100 000 fine after pleading guilty to assaulting the women after they had called him gay.

Former Higher Education deputy minister Mduduzi Manana’s co-accused Cyril Madonsela and Thulani Mdaka will be sentenced on Tuesday in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in the north of Johannesburg.

The two pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

This followed their involvement in the assault of three women at a Johannesburg night club earlier this year.

On Monday the court heard two reports from probation officers who recommended anger management courses and community service

Probation officers recommended 16 hours of anger management courses and between 200 and 500 hours of community service.

The two were together with Former Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana when they assaulted two ladies at Cubaña club in Fourways.

Manana has since paid R100 000 fine, he was also expected to pay a R26 000 bill for cosmetic and medical expenses.

The state did not ask for any costs in the Mdaka and Madonsela case.
