Makgabo Manamela did not appear at the hearings on Tuesday following Monday's grilling.

It’s not yet clear if the lawyer for suspended Gauteng Mental Health Director, Dr Makgabo Manamela, submitted her medical certificate to the Life Esidimeni hearings before close of business on Tuesday.

Lerato Mashilane had promised to do so to prove that his client was indeed sick and had gone to see a doctor.

This follows Manamela’s non-appearance at the hearings in Parktown Johannesburg on Tuesday following Monday’s grilling.

Arbitrator, Justice Dikgang Moseneke, ordered that a warrant for her arrest be issued but it remains suspended pending her expected appearance on Thursday.

When proceedings adjourned at 4pm on Tuesday, Justice Moseneke inquired about the doctor’s note.

Family members and their lawyers have accused Manamela of not treating the arbitration process with the respect it deserves.

They believe she’s simply trying to avoid accountability.
