The Arbitration is looking into the deaths of mentally ill patients moved from life Esidimeni facilities.

Deputy Director for Mental Health Services in Gauteng, Hannah Jacobus, has accused her former boss Dr Makgabo Manamela of lying under oath.

She says Manamela’s version that she did not impose more patients on NGOs than they could care for, is simply not true.

On Thursday, Jacobus told the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings in Johannesburg that Manamela also instructed her to flout regulations with regard to issuing licenses to NGOs due to tight deadlines in light of the imminent closure of Esidimeni facilities.

She further said Manamela took away some of her core responsibilities regarding compiling licences and delegated those responsibilities to other officials without her knowledge.

Asked as to why Manamela would lie under oath, Jacobus said she does not know and can not answer for Manamela.
