A 50-year-old man is in a critical condition after an apparent hit and run incident on the N3, near Durban’s Pavilion Shopping Centre , in KwaZulu-Natal. It is alleged the man was changing a tyre on his vehicle when he was struck by a truck.

The driver of the articulated truck failed to stop at the scene. Emer-G-Med’s Kyle Van Reenen says the injured man was stabilised before being transported to hospital.

“Emer-G-med paramedics were called to the N3 eastbound, near the Pavilion Shopping Centre to find the man lying on the roadway with life threatening poly traumatic injuries. Advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise him before he was transported rapidly by ambulance for further care. Reports from the scene indicate that the man was changing a tyre on his vehicle, when he was struck by a heavy articulated vehicle which failed to stop at the scene. SAPS (South African Police Service) was in attendance and will be conducting necessary investigations accordingly,” says Van Reenen.
