Maluti-a-Phofung council tables budget

Reading Time: < 1 minute

The municipal council sitting to table the budget at the Maluti-a-Phofung in Qwaqwa, Free State is currently underway.

The much anticipated budget tabling comes after the troubled municipality managed to elect their preferred executive mayor, Gilbert Mokotso.

Mokotso succeeded the embattled former executive mayor Vusi Tshabalala after the provincial African National Congress (ANC) forced him to resign.

Security has been beefed up at the municipality and a pepper spray was found on one of the ANC Councillor’s and it was confiscated by the police.

Previously scuffles broke out inside the municipal chambers which disrupted the sitting.

Services at this municipality came to a halt earlier this year as a result of contract workers employment agreements being terminated.

ANC Free State chairperson Sam Mashinini, who is also in attendance, hopes the rest of the sitting runs smoothly.
