Reading Time: < 1 minute

Gospel singing sensation Rebecca Malope and the late founder of Ladysmith Black Mambazo Joseph Shabalala will be honoured during the National Orders which President Cyril Ramaphosa will preside over later on Thursday morning.

The National Orders are the highest awards that a country bestows on distinguished citizens and eminent foreign nationals.

They recognise their contributions towards building a non-racial, democratic and prosperous South Africa.

The two musicians will receive the Order of Ikhamanga for their contribution to the promotion of their genres.

Justice Edwin Cameron will be awarded the Order of the Baobab in Gold for his contribution to the development of the judiciary and his fight against the stigma of HIV/AIDS.

Other recipients include former Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner and Ramaphosa’s former teacher, Tom Manthata.

In the video below, one of the Anti-apartheid struggle stalwarts from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape, Gcinisizwe Khwezi Sylvester Kondile, will be bestowed with the Order of Mendi in Gold:
