Reading Time: 2 minutes

The late pop-legend, Robbie Malinga, will be buried next week  in Johannesburg. His funeral is set for next Tuesday at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg.

Malinga’s family released funeral arrangement details in a press briefing on Wednesday. Malinga passed away on Christmas day, and will be laid to rest next Tuesday.

Bheki Malinga said although he knew that his brother was seriously ill, his death still caught them by surprise.

“Robbie Malinga had pancreatic cancer right by the time the family find out which was last year June it was in stage four already, so you can imagine.”

Following a family meeting, a press conference was held at Malinga’s Dainfern home. “We will have a memorial at Grace Bible Church and on Tuesday which is the second of January. We will have the funeral at Rhema Bible Church.”

According to reports, the music veteran had collaborated with Dr Malinga on a song just weeks before his death.

Malinga’s close friend and a former record label boss, TK Nciza says South Africa has lost a true musical genius.

“South Africans have lost a genius. One producer who could produce all types of music from hip hop, Tshwara, HHP to gospel traditions to everything. I mean he could move with times he’s really the baby face of South Africa you know.”

His brother, Bheki says, “Robbie Malinga had pancreatic cancer right by the time the family find out which was last year June. It was in stage four already… so you can imagine.”

Kwaito veteran, Doc Shebeleza, is also a close family friend.  “And the good thing that Robbie did on Christmas Day, he invited his wife’s family all of them not the wife and her sister all of them – the grannies and his family as the Malingas and they enjoyed…”

The family thanked the public, including President Jacob Zuma and Malinga’s favourite football team Orlando Pirates, for their messages of condolence. A memorial service will be held this Friday at the Grace Bible Church in Soweto.
