Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema says he fully supports Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan’s introduction of austerity measures to curb spending among government officials.

Malema was speaking at the launch of the party’s manifesto in Tembisa, on Saturday. He says that he is deeply concerned about what he terms far too much wastage in Parliament and government.

“They will not be given state houses. All of them must buy their own houses because they have salaries. We are going to ensure that all EFF government officials do not have a medical aid because there are public hospitals. We do not want any child of an EFF member of parliament in a private school,” says Malema.

He says he is deeply concerned about what he terms far too much wastage in parliament and government adding the National Assembly should not be in Cape Town as it leads to a duplication of expenses.

He made a number of promises, including a R4 000 a month minimum wage, the expropriation of land and the nationalisation of mines.

He says that should the EFF be elected, they will use banks, mines and agriculture to finance their promise to increase the salaries of workers, cut electricity tariffs and provide free education.

The EFF says the lives of the people have not improved 20 years into democracy.

“Those who say that we are unrealistic will be told that cash from our mines and banks will not go to politicians,” added Malema.
