Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema is to face a private prosecution by lobby group AfriForum for alleged corruption.

The head of  Afriforum’s private prosecution unit, Advocate Gerrie Nel  has just announced they will be pursuing a case against Malema.

The alleged corruption relates to an engineering contract awarded to On Point, a Limpopo-based company believed to have links with Malema’s family.

Afriforum CEO Kallie Kriel says, “I can say that we are planning to prosecute Mr Julius Malema on charges of corruption and fraud. When somebody portrays themselves as somebody that’s fighting for the poor, when such a person like in the case of Malema goes ahead and steal state money or tax payers’ money, money that should benefit the poor we believe such a person should be held accountable and that is why we’re going ahead with this case.”
