Makwetla calls for a speedy investigation as recommended in State Capture report

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Deputy Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Thabang Makwetla has called on law enforcement agencies to immediately investigate the alleged corruption against him, as recommended by the State Capture Commission Report.

The third instalment of the report handed over to President Cyril Ramaphosa recommended that Makwetla be investigated in the alleged involvement of corruption with Bosasa, during his tenure as Deputy Minister of Correctional Services.

According to the report, Makwetla received more than R300 000 worth of security equipment for his home from Bosasa. He told a media briefing on Friday morning that he’s got nothing to worry about, but for his rights to a speedy investigation, there must be immediate action to investigate the allegations.

He says he will not yet take the report on review but has highlighted that the State Capture commission has got it “horribly wrong” because not all ANC members are corrupt.

Makwetla elaborates, “Investigate and charge me about my judgment of the free service that BOSASA extended to me. My evidence is there in the Commission records that I rejected it. At that point I’ve said to the Commission I realized that this will constitute a conflict of interest.”
