Gauteng Premier David Makhura and Human Settlements MEC Uhuru Moiloa are expected to address the residents of several townships in the south of Johannesburg over their housing demands.

The meeting is set to take place at the Eldorado Park stadium.

Residents of Eldorado Park, Freedom Park and other nearby communities went on strike two weeks ago demanding 48 000 stands – which they say they were promised by former human settlements MEC, Paul Mashatile – in 2017.

Hundreds of residents in the south of Johannesburg went on the rampage two week ago, blockading roads with rocks and burning types, demanding houses.

A subsequent meeting between community leaders and Moiloa did not end well.

Community leaders walked out, saying the MEC was making the same promises that were made when they embarked on a similar protest last year.

On Saturday residents expect to hear clear plans from the MEC and Premier Makhura on how their concerns will be addressed.
