The African National Congress (ANC) in Johannesburg says Acting Gauteng Chairperson David Makhura is its preferred candidate for the party’s provincial chairperson position. The Gauteng ANC elective conference will take place from 20 to 22 of July.
It has been reported that some regions will back former Tshwane Mayor Kgosientsho Ramokgopa for the position.
The Sedibeng, Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni regional conferences are wrapping up in Johannesburg and Pretoria. “We can confirm that in terms of branch preferences across Johannesburg Comrade Makhura is the preferred candidate,” says ANC Johannesburg Spokesperson Jolidee Matongo.
Geoff Makhubo, who was formerly the Johannesburg ANC Treasurer, will now take over from former Johannesburg Mayor Parks Tau as chairperson.
“Geoffrey Makhubo is the new chairperson of the region, Eunice Mgcina is the new deputy chairperson, comrade Daria Moreo is the secretary of the region, Comrade Loyiso Masuku is the Deputy Secretary and comrade Mpho Moerane is the treasurer of the region. This is reflective of the branch nominations that happened during the branch general meetings,” says Matongo listing the newly elected top five officials.
