Gauteng premier David Makhura says the family of former South African ambassador to Canada Billy Modise is amongst many, who suffered and sacrificed their lives for this country’s freedom.
Modise died after a long illness at Unitas Hospital in Pretoria last week. Makhura told mourners attending Modise’s memorial service in Pretoria that the deceased was a teacher to many who managed to learn something from his excellent performance as a civil servant.
Former president Thabo Mbeki and scores of current and former members of parliament are in attendance.
Makhura says South Africans should pride themselves by having had in their midst people of Modise’s calibre.
