The Public Protector’s office should be empowered to process high profile cases amicably; this is according to Democratic Alliance‘s (DA) Mmusi Maimane who visited the Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s offices to establish the progress made in investigating relations between Bosasa, President Cyril Ramaphosa and his son, Andile Ramaphosa.
According to the DA, President Ramaphosa has a corrupt relationship with Bosasa and he misled parliament about the nature of this relationship.
This after it emerged that Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson had donated R500 000 to Ramaphosa’s presidential campaign and paid R2 million to Ramaphosa’s son Andile for advisory services rendered.
Maimane visited the Public Protector’s office to establish an update on investigations after laying a complaint about the matter five months ago.
“We are electing the President of the Republic, and we want all the candidates to stand up to public scrutiny, so that people will know that when you are dealing with Mr Maimane, these are the issues and if you’re dealing with Mr Ramaphosa, those are the issues.”
“The Public Protector has assured me that the matter between #Bosasa & Ramaphosa is receiving the highest attention possible.
It will not be possible in the short term to complete the investigation because of the layers of issues that are emerging on this matter” – @MmusiMaimane pic.twitter.com/xhLxYhr7s7

“Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane also confirmed that the report won’t be finalised before the election, because the investigation has to carry on for much longer.
Ramaphosa must do SAn public a favour and go to the #StateCapture inquiry to make his own submission.” – @MmusiMaimane pic.twitter.com/rzwcOtSHqy

The Public Protector’s office says the matter is too complicated for investigations to be completed timeously. No time-frame could be established as to when the investigations would be finalised.
Oupa Segalwe, from Public Protector’s Office, says the investigation touches on issues of possible interest between Ramaphosa’s official duties and his private interests.
“It also touches on issues of possible interest between the president’s official duties and his private interest, it also touches on issues of money laundering so those are very complex issues and naturally the public protector would not to complete in a matter of six months.”
Maimane acknowledged that the Public Protector’s office is not well resourced or funded. Despite this, he said he will continue to visit the office for an update on the matter.
