Maimane defends Trollip

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane has used the voter registration drive to defend the embattled Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Athol Trollip. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are planning to bring a vote of no confidence against Trollip next month.

Maimane visited several registration stations in the metro saying Trollip is an exceptional mayor and has done an incredible job for the city.

“That a political party would choose to renege on an agreement based on the colour of the skin is racist. It’s not just an assault on him as an individual; it’s an attack on the essence of the constitution.”

Meanwhile voter registration in most parts of the Metro has been slow.

“There were empty promises made to us. Some of us have stopped believing but my friend and I have come to register for a change,” says one of the people registering to vote.
