Mahumapelo welcomes govt intervention on health crisis

North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo has welcomed national government’s intervention to place the troubled provincial Health Department under administration.

The announcement was made at the cabinet briefing on Thursday by Communications minister Nomvula Mokonyane.

Earlier, there was unhappiness from the Director General for North West Dr Lydia Sebego, who said they had not been officially informed of the decision.

Speaking on SAfm’s Sunrise Mahumapelo says they are working on resolving the Nehawu strike so that health workers can go back to work by next week.

“We think that us working together with national we will be able to turn the situation around. We have been engaging Nehawu and we have met some of their demands. They want the PMDS. We have now paid 50 million of the PMDS and I hope that the task team we have put in place to negotiate with Nehawu they will be done by Tuesday or Wednesday and then people can go to work.”
