Mahumapelo under pressure to disclose business interests

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Opposition parties in the North West are keen to get answers on how former premier Supra Mahumapelo acquired a large business empire during his tenure.

Congress of the People (COPE) national chairperson Pakes Dikgetsi has threatened to approach the courts to force Mahumapelo and the provincial speaker Suzan Dantjie to disclose these details from his declaration of interests.

Dikgetsi says if there’s no disclosure, they’ll call on communities not to support McDonald’s and other outlets where the former premier has interests.

“Now if he does not do so and the speaker refuses to disclose those [details] then, we will have to approach the [North West] High Court to get an order to force them to disclose, because it’s in the interest of the public, tax payers of North West.”

“The second action that we will take, we will have to ask the citizen, until such time that Mahumapelo can give a satisfactory respond, we must hit him where it hurt the most, and it is to boycott his outlets,” adds Dikgetsi.
