Mahumapelo to serve 13 people with court papers for tainting his image

Reading Time: 3 minutes

African National Congress Chairperson in the North West, Supra Mahumapelo says he will be serving thirteen people, including members of the ANC and opposition, with court papers for tainting his image and bringing his name into disrepute.

Mahumapelo made one of his first public appearances since resigning as North West Premier. He spoke at an ANC Youth League Youth Month Memorial Lecture in Mahikeng.

The charismatic ANC provincial chairperson was met with a resounding welcome, almost a month since his resignation from office, as the Premier of the North West. Mahumapelo was seemingly unshaken by the past events, where residents and some within the ANC led a campaign for him to be removed from the province’s highest office.

His address focused largely on issues facing youth but also touched on the need to conquer disunity in the ruling party. Mahumapelo however told those in attendance, that while he was embracing unity within the fragmented party, he is still going after members of the ANC, who he says tainted his image in the public eye with untested allegations of corruption.

“Unity is about telling the truth about people, you cannot go around rubbishing people’s name in the eyes of the society and think you will be left unattended like that. Members of the ANC know that I am not this type of a person who is projected by a few members of the ANC who wanted to achieve a particular political objective.”

The divisions within the ANC where glaring, as Mahumapelo’s ANC Deputy Sello Lehari was addressing a different gathering elsewhere. During the event, some speakers expressed their displeasure about this, even suggesting that he be recalled as MEC.

Mahumapelo acknowledged that there is no cohesion with the party. He encouraged members of the ANC to respect and support President Cyril Ramaphosa for his effort for unity.

“President Ramaphosa is the president of the republic and president of the ANC. We must work with him. If there are issues about the style of leadership and so on there are structures. We must show respect to the president. “

In lauding Mahumapelo’s leadership, Youth League Regional Secretary, Wessels Morweng, who hosted the event, told Mahumapelo that they are pushing for him to get a third term.

” We are happy that Comrade Mahumapelo you are now visiting all 18 sub-regions to communicate what has really happened. What has really happened this past week was political concoction by people within and outside the ANC. We remain firm so Comrade Supra Mahumapelo for a third term, whether they like it or not. We do not care, we know Comrade Supra is the only Moses to the promised the land.”

Meanwhile, Mahumapelo has reiterated that he will visit all four regions and its 18 sub-regions, saying branches must know what really transpired before his resignation as premier.
