The African National Congress (ANC) Secretary-General, Ace Magashule will appear before the party’s Integrity Commission on Saturday.
The president of the governing party, Cyril Ramaphosa made the announcement at the end of the ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday afternoon.
The three-day virtual meeting was also attended by both former party presidents, Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma. It was called to discuss challenges facing the ANC and the so-called ‘stepping aside’ resolution, which deals with members facing criminal charges. These include Magashule, ANC MP Bonagni Bongo and KZN MPL Zandile Gumede among others.

The ANC president acknowledged the robustness of the meeting, saying although they have discussed issues that had the potential to fuel tension, they managed to reach an agreement.
Ramaphosa said they have all agreed to implement the ANC resolution on the fight against corruption. Ramaphosa said they have now resolved to deal with all members who are facing criminal charges, insisting that all those will be cascaded to provinces.
The embattled ANC SG is currently on a R200 000 bail for charges relating to the multi-million rand Free State asbestos project. The alleged graft happened while he was still the premier of the Free State.
Pressure has been mounting on him to step down, but he has stood firm saying a person is innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law. He has also said as an elected official, only party branches can decide his fate.
