Western Cape Premier Helen Zille has sparked a heated debate on twitter, after describing black privilege as “being able to loot a country and steal hundreds of billions and get re-elected.”
Her comments have sparked a public backlash with some such as former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela demanding that Zille apologise.
Dear @helenzille white privilege is universal and comes with the premium the world places on whiteness plus accumulated historical advantages. To equate it with black privilege is myopic. To brand blacks as looters and political pretenders is wrong. Please withdraw and apologize https://t.co/vTwbyn7aDI

This is not the first time Zille has been slated for her on-line pronouncements – she was criticised for her comments praising colonialism, a few years ago.
