Madikizela-Mandela challenged ANC on squabbles: Duarte

Reading Time: < 1 minute

ANC deputy secretary-general Jessie Duarte says a few weeks before struggle stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela died, she gave a directive to the ANC’s top six leadership to unite the organisation.

Duarte and NEC member Edna Molewa and former President Jacob Zuma shared the stage during Madikizela-Mandela‘s memorial service in Durban.

“In the last two weeks before she died her massage was very clear – unite the ANC, you have lost Johannesburg, Tshwane, you are weak in other areas. Leave your petty squabbles, put aside and forgive. We need to forgive each other, the little petty squabbles that we have. Why is it that we are fighting? No one has to die to lead in this ANC now. We must challenge ourselves, we must stand up and say no one can be a faction in my name.”
