Deputy President David Mabuza has commended the military veterans for the critical role they played and their dedication to the liberation of the country.

Mabuza in his capacity as Chairperson of the Presidential Task Team on Military Veterans said this in a meeting with military veterans at the Bloemspruit Air-force base in Bloemfontein.

Mabuza says the country we cannot afford to forget the history and dedication displayed by military veterans.

He says the government is determined to rectify its mistakes and challenges faced by veterans.

The meeting is aimed at providing a platform for the Presidential Task Team on Military Veterans, to provide updates and assessments on progress achieved by government, in addressing the challenges facing Military Veterans.

The Task Team, which is chaired by Mabuza and includes the Minister in The Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Mondli Gungubele, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, Thandi Modise and Deputy Minister, Thabang Makwetla, was appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to coordinate efforts to accelerate the pace of finding lasting solutions in addressing the Military Veterans issues.

In this regard, the Department of Military Veterans together with the Free State Provincial government will have the opportunity to update Military Veterans on programmes and interventions developed to address their socio-economic needs.
