The Eastern Cape premier Oscar Mabuyane is set to deliver a eulogy at the funeral of African National Congress struggle stalwart and trade unionist, Lilian Diedericks, on Friday.

Diedericks died at the comfort of her home in Gqeberha at the age of 96.

In 1954, she was among the Port Elizabeth delegates who attended the national Federation of South African women’s conference, which she was a part of its founding members.

She was also one of the women who marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to demand an end to the pass law.

Mam Lilly as affectionately known has been described as a life-long human rights activist will be honoured in a private funeral at the Methodist church in Gqeberha.

The ANC in the Eastern Cape says her death has left a void because of her courageous spirit and historic contribution to the province.

Many say she will be remembered for her compassion, her love for humanity and that she has left a legacy that she can be proud of.
