Nyong'o has also taken the fashion world by storm.

Lupita Nyong’o’s success in Hollywood may well be the story of many African children who sometimes fear that their dream are too big and their abilities too limited.

Thirty-four-year-old academy award winner, Lupita Nyong’o, is the daughter of a Kenyan politician and the current governor of Kisumu County, Peter Anyang Nyong’o and Dorothy Nyong’o, a philanthropist.

Her use of her talent to change how African children view themselves just is one of the reasons the Nelson Mandela foundation picked her as an ambassador for the late President Madiba’s Centenary celebrations.

She rose to fame in 2014 after winning an Oscar award for best supporting actress in the feature film “12 Years a Slave.”

On her return to Kenya after the award, Nyong’o was appointed the Global Elephant Ambassador for conservation group Wild Aid. She pledged to use her star power to campaign against illegal poaching and illegal trade in elephant tusks.

Nyong’o has also taken the fashion world by storm  she has used her fame to encourage young black women not to be ashamed of their looks.

She is due to publish a book titled “Sulwe” which she says will examine the prejudice in favour of light skin.

At the beginning of this year, she played as a special forces warrior alongside a nearly all black cast in the film “Black Panther”.  She has also announced that she will star in “Born a Crime” the film adaption of South African comedian Trevor Noah’s autobiography.
