Lungisa has strong case against ANC and Mbalula: Legal representative

Abongile Jantjies

The legal representative for the African National Congress (ANC) mayoral candidate in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro in the Eastern Cape, Andile Lungisa, says he has a strong case against the party and its secretary-general, Fikile Mbalula.

Lungisa has instituted legal action against them after his name was removed from the list of Proportional Representative (PR) councillors in the metro for the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Several candidates from six municipalities in the province have also been excluded after the ANC missed the Electoral Commission’s deadline.

The matter will be heard in the High Court in Johannesburg on the 26th of this month.

Lungisa’s legal representative, Sinawo Makangela, said, “Because of the issues, he has been removed. And there is no justifiable reason for the removal of his name from the PR list of Nelson Mandela Bay. As you all know, he was paraded here when everyone else was watching to be amongst the candidates of the ANC in the Metro area, that is Nelson Mandela. But all of a sudden, his name is no longer there now.”
