The National Assembly holds a debate and vote on the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) motion to remove Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
EFF leader Julius Malema says his party has called for a vote of no confidence in Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula because she instructed parliament protection services to assault members of his party.
Malema has repeated that female members of his party were sexually assaulted during the incident when President Cyril Ramaphosa was presenting the Presidency’s budget vote last year. He says another incident was when protection services were called into the House during this year’s SONA speech.
The same sitting also debates and votes on the Democratic Alliance (DA) motion to establish an ad hoc committee to probe Phala Phala with a specific focus on the alleged involvement and response of different government departments and agencies and their alleged role in covering up the crime.
