‘Little One’ makes big statement

Directed by Daniel Roodt, the filmmaker who wrote the award winning filmYesterday, Roodt’s latest movieLittle Oneis another classic South African tale which highlights a harrowing societal issue. Filmed in an informal settlement outside of Johannesburg, the story is based on the tragic true story of the rape of a six-year-old child.
The child is found unconscious in a field by Pauline, played by Lindiwe Ndlovu. At hospital it is discovered that the girl was raped multiple times and beaten. Pauline develops an interest in the girl and conducts her own investigation in order to find out who violated the girl.Speaking to Morning Live in April, Ndlovu said she felt compelled to take the role”When I read the script, there was a lot (rape) going on in the country, women, children and the disabled are being raped…the story needs to be told but nothings is happening…what as South Africans makes us so inhumane?””Ndlovu won a Safta for best leading actress in a film at the March awards for her portrayal of Pauline.Little One was released nationally at cinemas onApril 26, 2013.
