Two cases of meningitis linked to the listeriosis disease outbreak have been confirmed in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

Listeriosis is a food-borne disease which has killed more than 30 people in South Africa.

Over 500 cases have been reported, with the majority in the Gauteng province.

Earlier this week, the Eastern Cape department of health emphasized the importance of a diagnosis in the first 24 hours of detection.

The symptoms are flu-like illness, diarrhea, general body pains, vomiting and weakness.
