The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says the number of listeriosis infections in South Africa has decreased since the source of the deadly outbreak was traced back to the Enterprise cold meat plant in Polokwane, a month ago.

The Head of NICD Dr Juno Thomas says, “The Department of Health and Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries are embarking on systematic sampling programme where all ready-to-eat processed meat manufactures are going to be inspected and targeted samples taken of the production facilities as well of the products. This is just to ensure that the statuses of the ready to eat-processed meat in the country are safe from Listeriosis.”
