A 19-year-old matric learner from Phophi Secondary at Tshamulungwi village outside Thohoyandou in Limpopo has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old Grade eight learner.
The girl has since been removed from the school after she tried to commit suicide twice due to the incident.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo says the suspect is expected to appear at Mutale Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
“We can confirm that the police have arrested the 19-year-old suspect in connection with the alleged rape of a 13-year-old child. He is expected to appear in the Mutale Magistrate’s Court on Monday 23rd of August 2021. This follows an incident in which the suspect allegedly had a relationship with the 13-year-old child who is below the age for someone to have a relationship with. The investigation is still continuing.”
